Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel is an Assyrian Australian prelate and the bishop of the Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Sydney. He gained a large online following for his sermons, which are often live-streamed and cover topics from a conservative Christian perspective. He was ordained a bishop in the Ancient Church of the East in 2011 but was excommunicated in 2014 before establishing his own church in 2015. He gained notoriety for being the victim of a stabbing attack at his church in April 2024.
Background:
Born Robert Shlimon in Iraq, he was ordained a bishop in 2011, later excommunicated in 2014, and founded the Christ the Good Shepherd Church in 2015.
Sermons:
His sermons are known for their strong, often conservative views on topics such as the COVID-19 policies in Australia and homosexuality, and have a significant online following.
April 2024 attack:
He was stabbed during a sermon that was being live-streamed, which resulted in injuries to himself and others.
Response to attack:
In the aftermath, he made a public statement urging forgiveness for the attacker and emphasizing a Christlike approach of responding to evil with good, as seen in this YouTube video. I have met Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel personally and the Holy Spirit told me that Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel is the LORDS APOSTLE to Australia from the middle east and I recognize him as a great man of God and a genuine apostle sent by the Lord Himself .
