Why opponents want it stopped
Brumbies are a living part of Snowy Mountains identity (Banjo Paterson, The Man from Snowy River, Silver Brumby stories).
The 2018 heritage law that recognised that value was repealed in late 2025. The 3,000-horse retention target still sits in the existing plan until a new park plan of management is due by November 2027. Many fear that target will disappear.
They argue trapping, rehoming and fertility control should be used instead of helicopters; that official numbers are inflated; and that Snowy 2.0 construction is doing far more landscape damage while horses get the blame.
Change.org-style petitions have passed 200,000 signatures at various points.
If you want to push for it to stop, the effective levers are political and legal, not social-media slogans alone:
Contact the NSW Environment Minister and your local MPs (especially Snowy Monaro and Independents / Animal Justice Party voices who have already been on this).
Support groups already in court and in the media: Brumby Action Group, Snowy Mountains Bush Users Group, and related advocates
